McArthur welcomes news that Scottish Water will support Orkney Island Games 2025
Orkney’s MSP Liam McArthur has today welcomed news that Scottish Water will be working with the organisers of the 2025 Orkney International Island Games to provide additional free water refill taps for competitors, volunteers and supporters throughout the games.
The games will take place from 12-18 July and the initiative aims to ensure that all can access free drinking water, while limiting single-use plastics.
Commenting on the news, Mr McArthur said:
“As the Games draw ever closer, I know that excitement is building locally as thousands of competitors, coaches, officials and supporters prepare to make the journey to Orkney. Hosting the 2025 International Island Games is a great honour, but with an event on this scale it’s important we take steps to protect the natural environment of our islands.
“I’m pleased that Scottish Water have teamed up with organisers to provide additional free water refill taps across Orkney throughout the Games. This will allow competitors, volunteers and supporters alike to keep hydrated while reducing single-use plastics.
“Here in Orkney, we can’t wait to welcome our guests from around the world to what is sure to be another memorable Games. And don’t forget to pack your refillable water bottle, of course”.
