McArthur welcomes news that Orkney is to become a National Lottery ‘Heritage Place’

Orkney’s MSP, Liam McArthur has today welcomed the announcement that Orkney is set to become one of the latest National Lottery ‘Heritage Places’.
The National Lottery Heritage Fund has today announced a further six ‘Heritage Places’ as part of their UK wide investment programme, which is intended to strengthen the connection of communities to local heritage regeneration.
Under the investment, Orkney is set to become the second Heritage Place in Scotland, with funding aimed at preserving the renowned and rich heritage of the islands.
Commenting on the announcement, Mr McArthur said:
“I’m delighted to learn that Orkney will become the second Scottish National Lottery Heritage Place. Orkney boasts world-class historical, cultural and natural heritage sites and this funding will be hugely beneficial in ensuring that heritage is preserved and celebrated for generations to come.
“It’s important that this funding is used to reflect the priorities of islanders, and I know Orkney Islands Council will be working closely with the National Lottery Heritage Fund to shape upcoming funding applications.
“I look forward to seeing how this funding will support Orkney’s diverse and renowned heritage going forward, and extend my thanks to the National Lottery for their continued support over many years."
