McArthur supports Dementia Awareness Week 2025
Orkney’s MSP Liam McArthur has expressed his support for Dementia Awareness Week 2025, which is taking place from the 2nd-8th June.
Each year, Dementia Awareness Week provides an opportunity to raise awareness about dementia and encourage discussions on how best to improve the lives of those with the condition. This year, the event is focusing in particular on the importance of maintaining friendships and social connections at every stage of a person’s progression with dementia.
Age Scotland Orkney and partner organisations are holding a series of events locally to mark Dementia Awareness Week this year, and more information can be found here. Mr McArthur popped along to the Men’s Hub earlier today at Age Scotland Orkney’s offices.
Mr McArthur commented:
“Dementia Awareness Week provides an important opportunity to acknowledge the collective efforts needed to raise awareness, combat stigma and improve services.
“The role of carers, friends, family and the wider community are central to reducing loneliness and keeping memories alive, and maintaining these close connections is fundamental to the wellbeing of those living with dementia.
“Organisations such as Age Scotland Orkney and Dementia Friendly Orkney do amazing work all year round and should be commended for their efforts this Dementia Awareness Week. There is an outstanding array for events being held locally, from information sessions for carers to dementia friendly singing and bingo sessions, and I would encourage constituents to get involved and show their support.”
