Orkney’s MSP Liam McArthur has used a Members’ Business debate in parliament today to highlight the need to improve the services available for people with Parkinson’s in Orkney.

McArthur demands action to meet Orkney’s growing freight needs

Orkney’s MSP Liam McArthur has again pressed the government to take action to ensure the growing demands for freight capacity on Northern Isles ferry routes are met in future.  

At General Questions in Parliament today, Mr McArthur reminded the Islands Minister, Paul Wheelhouse of reassurances that had been given by the First Minister, when her raised the matter with her back in September 2018, following serious concerns having been raised by key sectors of the Orkney and Shetland economies.

Additional freight capacity still needed on Northern Isles ferry routes, say Scott and McArthur

Northern Isles MSPs, Liam McArthur and Tavish Scott, have today repeated their calls for the Scottish Government to make additional freight capacity available on Orkney and Shetland ferry routes.  the call comes as Ministers confirm the purchase of the two freight ferries, MV Helliar and MV Hildasay,  that currently operate on the routes from Aberdeen to Kirkwall, Orkney and Lerwick.
