Orkney’s MSP Liam McArthur has welcomed the announcement that the British Gas Energy Trust will be awarding £328,999 in funding to THAW (Tackling Household Affordable Warmth) Orkney.

Commenting, Mr McArthur said:

“THAW do invaluable work in our islands. In a community with some of the highest rates of fuel poverty anywhere in the country, the support and advice provided to vulnerable individuals and households could scarcely be more important, particularly in the midst of an ongoing cost of living crisis.

“In previous years, serious problems have arisen due to uncertainty over THAW’s funding. It is therefore welcome that BGET has been able to confirm this significant support that will allow THAW to continue to undertake the vital work that it does.

“Alongside lottery and other funding, this provides stability for THAW and its staff, which in turn allows them to focus on helping people in need within our community. All in all, this is an incredibly positive development.”
