Update on Breast Screening Programme in Orkney

The Breast Screening Programme is currently unable to provide screening appointments for women out with 50-71 years due to the need to catch up with the backlog of the eligible age group because of the pause to screening last year.

However, NHS Orkney are liaising with symptomatic breast colleagues to proactively make appointments for all women over the age of 50 whose annual surveillance mammogram following breast cancer diagnosis is due while we are screening in Orkney.
They do not have an upper age limit for this cohort of women. NHS Orkney are making these appointments as close to their annual 'due' date as possible, so these appointments are spread out across 7th June to 7th October.
In the months leading up to the arrival of the mobile screening unit in Orkney, the NHS will engage with all GP Practices, local Public Health and nursing team to ensure this information is passed on, with a GP booklet and staff information booklet being issued.
