Kirkwall City Pipe Band Celebrates its Centenary Year

That the Parliament congratulates Kirkwall City Pipe Band on its centenary year; understands that the band was formed on 23 November 1919 to parade through the streets of Kirkwall to commemorate the armistice in 1918; further understands that the band recently celebrated this prestigious milestone with a memorable parade in Kirkwall in front of a large crowd, where they played alongside the Thurso and Stromness pipe bands and members of the Rendall Pipe Band; notes that former members of the Kirkwall City Pipe Band also took part in the parade as a testament to, and in celebration of, the different generations who have all contributed to its success over the years; notes that each band played a 15-minute set, before joining together for a rousing encore, which included a rendition of Highland Cathedral; acknowledges the impressive longevity of Kirkwall City Pipe Band and the outstanding contribution that members past and present have made to the community over many years; thanks those who have worked hard to grow the reach of the band, serving the community through teaching and playing, while also creating a social outlet for members of all ages and abilities, and wishes Kirkwall City Pipe Band every future success for the next 100 years and beyond.
