Natwest International Island Games 2019

That the Parliament congratulates all those who took part in the 18th Natwest International Island Games 2019 in Gibraltar; notes that 24 islands participated in the friendly games, featuring around 2,500 athletes from 14 different sports; commends the Orkney team on winning six medals at the games, in the face of very high quality competition; congratulates, in particular, Bobby Spence on winning gold in the 50 metre prone rifle event and bronze in the 50 metre 3 point rifle event, Mia McAllister on winning silver in the 50 metre butterfly, which is Orkney’s first swimming medal since 1995, Amy Davis on winning joint bronze in the high jump, Taylah Spence on winning silver in the 200 metre sprint and Orkney’s 4 x 400 women’s team also winning silver; recognises the incredible amount of hard work and commitment put in by the athletes, coaches and officials in preparation for, and during, the competition itself; thanks the Gibraltar Island Games team and the International Island Games Association for promoting, organising and hosting another memorable competition; looks forward to Orkney taking on the mantle of hosting the games in 2023, and wishes the Orkney Island Games Association and the Orkney 2023 Organising Committee all the very best as they continue preparations for what it considers will be a spectacular games and highly significant moment in Orkney’s sporting history.
