Motion S5M-19880: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats, Date Lodged: 14/11/2019

Malcolm Johnston from Orkney Recognised by the Royal British Legion

That the Parliament congratulates Malcolm Johnston, who is from Orkney, on being awarded both the Royal British Legion Gold Badge and National Certificate for Meritorious Service; understands that Malcolm joined the Kirkwall branch of the Legion in 1970; notes that he was elected to its committee in 1979 and has held the posts of Poppy Convener, Branch Treasurer and Branch Chairman; acknowledges that he was subsequently elected as Chairman of the Highlands and Islands area in 2014 while also serving on the National Board of Trustees; recognises that Malcolm was presented with the National Certificate for Meritorious Service by the President of the Royal British Legion Scotland, Sir Alastair Irwin, at the Legion Annual Conference in June 2019 and was awarded a Gold Badge by the Kirkwall Branch at its recent Remembrance dinner; believes that, as very few national certificates or gold badges are presented due to the high eligibility criteria, this recognition highlights Malcolm's exceptional work; thanks Malcolm for his many years of outstanding and dedicated services to the Kirkwall and Highlands and Islands branches, and congratulates him on his well-deserved recognition.
