Orkney’s MSP, Liam McArthur, has highlighted opportunities that are available to constituents who are looking for financial assistance to build their own homes.
The Scottish Government’s Self Build Home Help fund was set up to provide financial help for individuals who can’t obtain mainstream self-build mortgage finance but who can repay the loan when their project is completed. The fund currently only runs until 31st August 2021.
Mr McArthur recently supported an application for a constituent who successfully secured a loan for their project with assistance from the Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust, who administer the fund on behalf of the Scottish Government.
Commenting, Mr McArthur said:
“The Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust offered excellent step by step support to my constituent during his application to the self-build home help fund and I’m delighted that he now has the opportunity to make his vision for his new home a reality.
“Meantime, the trust has assured me that they’re keen to advise and support others in Orkney who might be considering building their own home. This is good news given the popularity of such an option locally, but where securing a mortgage is not always straightforward. It’s important that those who are eligible are aware of the support that is available to them and can make full use of the fund.
“I would encourage anyone interested to contact my office. Alternatively, they may wish to get in touch with the Trust directly at https://www.hscht.co.uk/contact.html”
