Orkney MSP Liam McArthur today said that the First Minister should be careful what she wishes for after Nicola Sturgeon appealed for islanders to have their say on a future Scottish Government Islands Bill.
Commenting, Mr McArthur said:
"The First Minister should be careful what she wishes for when asking people in the Isles to have their say on the SNP's record. Whether it is the failure to extend the Road Equivalent Tariff scheme to the Northern Isles or removing local control of our police services her government has a lot to answer for and people are not likely to hold back.
"The SNP have talked a good game on island powers but their record tells a different story. The First Minister needs to explain why her government have relentlessly taken powers away from local councils and ignored the needs of people in the Northern Isles in particular."
