Liam responds to Willie Rennie's resignation as Scottish Liberal Democrats Leader

“Willie Rennie has been my friend for over 30 years and I am very sorry to see him stepping down as leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats.

“For the past ten years, he has led our party with energy, enthusiasm and skill, as well as his trademark good humour. He is a natural and tireless campaigner whose personal warmth allows him to engage with people from all walks of life. It’s no coincidence that he has built up such overwhelming support in his North East Fife constituency or before that during the Dunfermline by-election.
“Of course, Willie’s campaigning has always been built on core liberal principles and he deserves enormous credit for pursuing issues such as mental health and education with such tenacity and persistence. This has undoubtedly pushed these issues up the political agenda and demonstrated the value of having strong liberal voices in our politics.

“I know Willie has a great deal still to contribute to our party, parliament and politics more widely. Meantime, I thank him for his leadership and friendship, and wish him, Janet and the family all the best”
