Welcoming Marinus Tidal Energy Platform to Orkney

That the Parliament welcomes news that the first-ever tidal energy platform to be built in Orkney has been successfully launched into Kirkwall Bay; understands that the Marinus platform was constructed, equipped and assembled in Orkney by the local marine construction company, Leask Marine, alongside other industry experts; acknowledges that the project will utilise vertical axis hydrokinetic turbine technology that has been developed by the Canadian technology developer, Instream Energy Systems, and technology defence specialists, BAE Systems, and has been supported by Innovate UK’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund; notes that tidal energy is one of the planet’s most available, reliable and sustainable renewable energy sources and that the platform will allow for this green energy source to be fully utilised around Orkney; congratulates Dougie Leask and the team at Leask Marine on their development of the project, and thanks them for their continued hard work to support the marine energy sector around Orkney and the Northern Isles.
