Motion S5M-18664: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats, Date Lodged: 02/09/2019

Welcoming the Orkney International Science Festival

That the Parliament welcomes the start of the 29th Orkney International Science Festival, which runs from the 5 to 11 September 2019; notes that the festival is the oldest of its kind outside of Edinburgh and offers over 70 events to the public at various venues across Orkney; understands that the programme is linking with Foraging Fortnight this year, which is celebrating Scotland’s natural environment and wild food; further understands that there will also be events to recognise the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, as well as a range of new additions, including shore outings and papermaking from natural materials; acknowledges that these new events, along with popular favourites, such as the annual family day at the King Street Halls in Kirkwall, join together to create a festival that provides something for all ages, with an impressive combination of informative, creative and entertaining events; thanks Howie Firth and all those involved in organising and putting on such a comprehensive festival, with events across Orkney, and looks forward to the continued success of the Orkney Science Festival for years to come.
