Orkney Bids Farewell to its "Flying Banker"

That the Parliament congratulates Anne Rendall on her retirement as the "flying banker" for the Royal Bank of Scotland in Orkney; understands that Anne took on this role in 1988 and has since taken over 12,000 flights as part of her inter-island commute in order to provide a banking service to some of Orkney’s most remote communities; further understands that, as a result, she has been stranded on every island over the course of her career; notes that, in recognition of the dedication required to provide this service, Anne received an MBE in 2010; recognises that the relatively poor access to broadband in many parts of Orkney, including the Isles, has made the potential for online banking more limited, making the job performed by Anne over the years all the more important to the island communities she serves; acknowledges the benefits of having a friendly and familiar face, as well as someone with a wealth of experience, carrying out this role; thanks Anne for her outstanding service, and wishes her the very best with her retirement plans.
