Service provider EE have announced the first of five 4G sites in Orkney has now gone live, with the subsequent sites to follow later in June.
Vodafone UK and O2 have also confirmed that they have rolled out 4G services to their customers while 3G and 2G services have been improved as part of the upgrade.
Commenting, Orkney MSP Liam McArthur said:
“The importance of improved mobile phone connectivity cannot be underestimated. As well as being essential for many local businesses it also improves the ability of people living and working in Orkney to access services.
“Having pressed service providers over a number of years I am pleased to see the arrival of 4G service in Orkney. However this is only a start and must be quickly followed by delivery of good quality 4G as well as voice coverage right across our islands.”
