Responding to the news that Calmac has dropped legal proceedings against the government’s decision to appoint Serco as the preferred bidder for the Northern Isles Ferry Services contract, Orkney’s MSP Liam McArthur commented:
“Communities in Orkney and Shetland will be relieved to hear that the legal challenge has been dropped. This brings to an end nearly two years of uncertainty surrounding the future of our lifeline ferry services.
“With confirmation from the European Commission regarding state aid issues, Ministers must now crack on with introducing RET on Orkney’s ferry routes. We have waited years for access to the cheaper ferry fares the government put in place on west coast routes back in 2008. People in Orkney should have to wait no longer.”
