Orkney MSP Liam McArthur said:
“Given the lifeline nature of the air services using these airports, it crucial that the long term viability of local and regional airport operations are guaranteed. While I understand that the HIAL Board believe the best way to achieve this is with the introduction of remote towers, the board must also be up front about the consequences of this decision on local staff.
“In the recent past there were legitimate concerns at a lack of proper consultation. Moving forward, HIAL have a duty to their staff to get it right. HIAL must involve both staff and the communities directly affected by this decision in full and meaningful engagement. I will be meeting HIAL's Managing Director, Inglis Lyon, next week in Parliament where I will be restating this point once again.”
