Orkney’s MSP Liam McArthur has warmly welcomed the Hamnavoe Hub Project, which will see locally produced green electrical power used to supply MV Hamnavoue while she is docked in Stromness.
Commenting, Mr McArthur said:
‘Using renewable energy to provide shore power for ferries makes perfect sense in a place like Orkney. This has been under discussion for many years and it is fantastic to see the Hamnavoe Hub Project now taking this forward.
“Reducing emissions from the transport sector is critical if we are to achieve our climate change objectives. Hopefully this initiative will also provide valuable lessons that can be used to inform a wider roll out, not just in Orkney but nationally and internationally.
“Orkney has a fine track record of innovation in meeting challenges and taking advantage of opportunities. The Hamnavoe Hub Project is a further example of this and I congratulate all those involved.”
