Orkney’s MSP Liam McArthur used Rural Affairs Questions in parliament this afternoon to draw attention to capacity issues affecting Orkney’s inter isles air services.
Mr McArthur raised the issue with Transport & Islands Minister, Humza Yousaf MSP and invited him to discuss with Orkney Islands Council how future provision of these services might be expanded to meet the needs of communities in the outer isles.
Commenting after the exchange, Mr McArthur said:
“The inter isles air service is a lifeline for communities in Orkney’s outer isles. Very often, however, it can be difficult to get seats, even well in advance, and some routes are not particularly well-served at all.
“The service, of course, is currently contracted with Loganair by the Council, who are looking at how this can be better integrated with ferry provision in future. However, given that the Scottish Government is already committed to helping find a solution to the delivery of our internal ferry services, it makes sense for Ministers to engage in discussions about our internal air services as well.”
