Commenting on research published today by the GMB Union into North Sea decommissioning, Orkney MSP Liam McArthur said:
"The GMB are right to highlight the frustrations as Scotland loses out to foreign competitors in the race to take full advantage of the economic opportunities from decommissioning.
“With an eye on the Autumn Statement this week, stakeholders will be looking to see urgent action not only in terms of a competitive tax regime but also investment to get Scotland back in the game.
“The Scottish Government and its agencies also have a key role to play in ensuring Scottish ports and fabrication yards, such as the proposed site at Lyness, are ready to take on decommissioning contracts. They must work closely with UK counterparts to address the concerns highlighted by GMB and other stakeholders before the job and wealth creation opportunities sail on by.”
